Dear Kate, I'm preparing for my first mortgage. I don't know what to expect. Can you help me? Jonathon
Hi Jonathon, Here's the thing about getting a mortgage. It isn't something you do often. So feeling like a fish out of water is normal. But hey, I have good news! Here are the final 2 of 12 mortgage tips leading to a successful mortgage journey.
Tip Eleven It Ain't Over Until It's Over: Signing final paperwork doesn't necessarily mean your mortgage loan process is over. Sometimes, a day or more passes between signing and closing.
So after signing, contact your Realtor or mortgage professional to see who will be calling with the good news that the transaction is finished.
I probably don't need to mention this but don't forget about asking when the keys to your house will be available.
Tip Twelve How To Prevent The Oh-Oh: Mortgage documents need safeguarding. You will receive copies of the ones you signed for closing. Keep them for future reference. You may need them for refinancing or selling the house later down the road.
I suggest using a lockable fireproof box so they are in one central location.
