Dear Kate, I'm preparing for my first mortgage. I don't know what to expect. Can you help me? Jonathon
Hi Jonathon, Here's the thing about getting a mortgage. It isn't something you do often. So feeling like a fish out of water is normal. But hey, I have good news! Here are 12 mortgage tips leading to a successful mortgage journey. Today I'll cover the first 2. Check back often for the next 10.
Tip 1 Dedicate Specific Time: The first contact with your mortgage lender is important. If you choose to use the phone, create a quiet setting where you are comfortable talking. Don't try this sitting in a cubicle surrounded by co-workers.
If you plan a face to face meeting with your mortgage company, leave the kids with Grandma and Grandpa if possible. You need to be able to concentrate and so does your mortgage representative.
Tip 2 Line Up Your Ducks: Create a central location with a file folder or a container as simple as a shoebox to organize your paperwork. When it comes time for buying a house or refinancing, you'll be glad you did.
The thing about paystubs and other ducks is this. It's easier to toss them in one dedicated place compared to scouring your house, car or even the garage later on.
Tip for getting your ducks in a row: Kate's free Mortgage Information Planner.
